(#818) Controls for artificial lighting

Query

A residential type project is registered under GRIHA and has followed mandatory requirements of ECBC– 2007 as per GRIHA 3.1 in which lighting controls for dwelling units are exempted as mentioned under the section (7.1 – Lighting). However, the project has installed photo-sensors for exterior lighting to conserve energy and thus no other controls (Daylighting, space & automatic lighting shutoff control) as mentioned under the above mentioned section have been installed. Please confirm our approach.

Response

For external lighting, automatic controls are mandatory. However, for indoor artificial lighting manual switches are acceptable. Hence, the approach mentioned in the query is acceptable.
