Is the ECBC clause for motors applicable to a naturally ventilated residential building?

Query

We have a naturally ventilated residential building with no HVAC systems. ECBC includes only the motors used in HVAC systems. The only pumps used in the project are for domestic water supply and flushing and have motors coupled with pumps. In that case, is this clause applicable to our project?

Solution

If any motor falls under the following ECBC clause (section 8.2.2 Energy efficiency motors), then project has to meet the motor efficiency prescribed limit.

The clause states that, "All the permanently wired polyphase motors of 0.375 kW or more serving the building and expected to operate more than 1,500 hours per year and all permanently wired polyphase motors of 50 kW or more serving the building and expected to operate more than 500 hours per year shall have a minimum acceptable nominal full load motor efficiency not less than IS 12615 for energy efficient motor."

Please refer Table 8.3, 8.4, 8.5 and 8.6 to verify the values of performance characteristics.
