Can the project claim points In criterion 19 GRIHA Version 3, for installing SWH even though the hot water requirement is less than 500 lt/day?

Query

The Project is a G+11 storied commercial building with retail on Ground Floor and office spaces on upper floor. The building’s hot water requirement is less than 500 liters/day. The project will have to install solar hot water system to comply with Govt. regulations. Can the project claim points In criterion 19, GRIHA Version 3, for installing SWH?

Solution

The points related to non-applicable criteria are removed from the denominator. If the project is installing solar thermal system and wants points to be awarded, the total points will be added in the denominator as well. Please note that it could be detrimental for the project in some cases.
For example:
Case 1: A project is going for non-applicability and is achieving 75 points out of 97.
Case 2: The project decides to forego the non-applicability and is only able to achieve 1 point, since the calculation is based on energy offset. Then, in this case the project will achieve 76 points out of 100, which will affect the rating.
Therefore, the project team is advised to weigh the options and choose an appropriate path.
