We have an office building with a cutout area within it. The cutout area is covered with solar PV panels at roof level and open at floor levels. The office floors have glass walls and balconies facing towards this cutout zone. Should we count this wall & glass area also in WWR calculation? In addition to this do we need to consider SHGC as per ECBC norms for glass falling within this cutout zone as it will remain shaded throughout the year due to Solar PV on roof? Please suggest.
Solution
Windows opening to internal courtyards (open to outside air) should be included for WWR calculations and need to comply with SHGC requirements. The project may prove compliant by effective SHGC method in this case.
