(#8035) Embodied energy reduction

Query

Can we get points by using fly ash cement for design and normal cement for baseline? The fly ash content in cement is 25%. Also, as embodied energy values for all materials are not available in one reference can we refer to two or more references for the embodied energies values of different materials?

Response

Use of flyash in structure cannot be claimed under reduction in embodied energy as the project is claiming points for use of flyash under criterion 19. However, project can show relevant documentation to claim reduction in dead load due to replacement of cement by fly-ash.
With regard to reference for embodied energy, the project can use multiple reference documents for considering various embodied energy. However, the reference values must be taken from peer reviewed research papers/document and should meet the GRIHA requirement.
The above compliance will only be accepted on submission of relevant documentation.
