If daylight penetration is more than 2H (depth of day lighted zone) and room depth is more than the day lighted zone’s depth, can we consider increased depth of the day lighted zone (more than 2H) ?

Query

Regarding day lighted zone areas in criterion 13 (GRIHA Version 3), if daylight penetration is more than 2H (depth of day lighted zone) and room depth is more than the day lighted zone’s depth, can we consider increased depth of the day lighted zone (more than 2H) such that it is still equal to or less than room depth and the DF in the center of the day lighted zone meets the requirement. If yes, this will result in more day lighted zone area than the one described in GRIHA manual.

Solution

Yes, the extended area can be considered. It is possible that in a given space, the day lighted area as per ECBC may be smaller than the area achieving the required daylight levels. GRIHA also accepts the average Daylight Factor  method (average Daylight Factor  over the entire analysis area to meet/exceed SP 41 recommended Daylight Factor  levels
Note: Daylight zone calculations are not required for GRIHA rating according to GRIHA Version 2015.
