Query
Does GRIHA allow for mutual shading from neighboring buildings and trees?
Solution
Yes, mutual shading from neighboring buildings and trees can be considered to demonstrate compliance in Criterion 13, GRIHA Version 3. However, these buildings and trees must either fall in the project boundary or must be owned by the project owner. Any building or tree that is not in control of the project proponent cannot be considered for compliance.
GRIHA accepts sun path diagrams to meet shading compliance. The window must be fully shaded from 10:00 am on 15th March to 4:00 pm on 30th September. The sun path diagrams should be submitted to demonstrate compliance for the same.
