A project is using interlocked concrete paver blocks with gaps, laid over sand bed as pervious paving. Is this composition considered pervious to comply with the criterion 05 (GRIHA Version 3)?

No, interlocked concrete pavers with gaps are not considered as pervious paving in Criterion 05 (GRIHA Version 3). The intent of Criterion 05 (GRIHA Version 3) is to reduce the hard paved surfaces on site so that the run off coefficient of the site is low and the heat island effect is minimized. Interlocked concrete pavers neither help in reducing the run off coefficient nor reflect adequate heat back to the atmosphere. Thus they cannot aid in compliance.
However, interlocked pavers with gaps for grass or grass pavers may contribute to compliance in Criterion 5 (GRIHA Version 3). It must be noted that, only the gaps/grass area will be considered pervious and not the entire paving assembly.
