Query

What is the procedure for organizing an orientation workshop in the college campus for the students and the faculty.

Solution

The students training program is divided in 3 parts.

The first part is general awareness on green buildings & GRIHA. It can be attended by all students and faculty. There is no limit to maximum students who can attend this part of the workshop, considering adequate arrangements are made so that all students can see, hear and participate in the presentation. Although, we suggest the number be not more than 300, to ensure an interactive session.

The second part is a dedicated workshop on visual, thermal and acoustic comfort and can only be attended by 4th and 5th year students (maximum 50 students).

The third part in continuation to the second is a dedicated workshop on sustainable site management practices, EPI calculation and water calculations. Students who have attended the second and third part will be provided a certificate of participation by the GRIHA Council.

Each part of the workshop is of 3-4 hours duration; hence a maximum of 2 can be done in one day. The cost for the workshop is Rs. 30,000/-. Apart from that, the institute needs to arrange to-and-fro travel (air) and stay (min. 3 star or college guest house) for 2 GRIHA Council officials.

An initial orientation lecture of around 3 hours can also be conducted. The professional cost for the event will be Rs. 10000/-. Additionally, travel arrangements for GRIHA Council official needs to be taken care by the institute.

Initially this initiative was launched as our CSR activity. However due to the limitation in CSR fund, we have a limited numbers of such free workshops in a financial year. Hence to facilitate the increasing requests from different institutes, a nominal fee is charged to cover the professional cost of GRIHA Council officials.
