The client wishes to go for GRIHA registration for branding, sustainability and other incentives. The project shall be executed through EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) contract where the client is supposed to make Preliminary Design, Master Plan and concept. The detailed engineering and execution shall be carried out by EPC agency. Can you please answer the following queries:
1. Is it compulsory to register project under GRIHA prior to construction or prior to appointment of EPC contractor?
2. Can the client make it compulsory for the EPC contractor to get GRIHA registration, but what if the contractor changes or point out some shortcomings in point of view of achieving score under GRIHA Criteria?
Solution
1. It is not mandatory to register for GRIHA prior to the hiring of EPC contractor. However, it is recommended that the project be registered prior to the beginning of construction.
2. Client can make GRIHA registration mandatory by including it as an additional clause in the contract document of the EPC contractor. It is a decision of the project proponent.
